Meta Launches Aria Gen 2 AR Glasses

Meta has revealed its new Aria Gen 2 augmented reality glasses, building on the foundation of its original AR research device released five years ago. The updated version brings advanced features and improvements for research purposes.

Enhanced Technology and Sensor Upgrades

The Aria Gen 2 includes new technologies such as a PPG sensor for heart rate monitoring and a contact microphone to isolate the user’s voice from surrounding noise. Meta has also integrated custom silicon to power its enhanced capabilities.

AI Functions and Extended Battery Life

The glasses are designed to handle AI tasks such as eye tracking, hand tracking, and speech recognition, with open-ear “force-canceling” speakers. The device is lightweight and provides up to eight hours of battery life on a single charge.

Research and Early Applications

Meta plans to release Aria Gen 2 to academic and commercial research labs soon. Envision, an early tester, is already using the glasses to develop solutions for people who are blind or visually impaired.
