Meta Announces "Project Waterworth"
Meta has confirmed it’s working on "Project Waterworth," a big undersea cable that will cover over 50,000 kilometers and connect five continents. This will be the first undersea cable that Meta fully owns.
Locations and New Technology
The cable will connect the US, Brazil, India, and South Africa. Meta says it will be the longest cable in the world with 24 fiber pairs, placed as deep as 7,000 meters under the ocean to avoid damage from things like boat anchors.
How the Cable Will Help?
The cable will help improve things like digital communication, video streaming, online transactions, and AI development. It will also help Meta’s services, which already handle a large part of global internet and mobile traffic, stay reliable.
India’s Support but No Funding
India has shown support for the project, but Meta clarified that India is not paying for it. India plans to help with the maintenance and repair of undersea cables in the Indian Ocean.
