Automation: Create a Social Tag in
SharePoint 2010 using PowerShell
A Social Tag can be created for any specified URL with a valid term using the SocialTagManager object. SocialTagManager object contains methods and properties
that are used to manipulate social tag data.
Steps Involved:
- Create the input xml file which contains
the inputs for creating social tag.
- Create a ps1 file which contains the script
for creating social tag.

Run the Script:
- Go to Start.
- Click on All Programs.
- Click on Microsoft SharePoint 2010
Products and then click on SharePoint 2010 Management Shell (run as
Administrator).
- Run the
D:\VijaiPOC\CreateSocialTag.ps1
Newly created social tag:
- Open Central Administration by going Start
| All Programs | Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products | SharePoint 2010
Central Administration.
- Click on Manage Service Application which
is available in Application Management section.

- Click on User Profile Service Application.
- Click on Manage Social Tags and Notes
which is available in "My Site Settings" section.

- Select Tags from the Type dropdown and
enter the URL and Tag/Note contains value.
- Click on Find.
- You could be able to see the Social Tag
that we have created using Powershell.
