As a UX Writer, you will be responsible for developing content that guides users through our payment products with clarity and simplicity. You will craft user interface (UI) text, onboarding instructions, help guides, error messages, and promotional content—ensuring a seamless and engaging user journey.
This role requires a strong mix of writing, strategy, and collaboration skills. You will define the product voice, align content with Google’s design principles, and maintain consistency across various touchpoints. Additionally, you will document best practices, create content guidelines, and educate cross-functional teams on the importance of UX writing.

Key Responsibilities
Create User-Focused Content
- Write clear, concise, and engaging UI text for Google’s payment products.
- Develop onboarding flows, instructional materials, and error messages to enhance user understanding.
- Ensure that all content aligns with Google’s brand voice and accessibility standards.
Define Content Strategy and Best Practices
- Establish guidelines and content strategies to maintain consistency across products.
- Develop a content framework that ensures all communications are clear, helpful, and user-friendly.
- Set standards for UX writing and provide documentation for reference.
Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with designers, product managers, engineers, researchers, legal, and marketing teams.
- Advocate for the role of UX writing in product development and ensure alignment with design goals.
- Provide feedback and collaborate to create seamless user interactions.
Manage and Execute Content Projects
- Lead UX content initiatives from strategy to implementation.
- Prioritize content needs, secure resources, and manage project timelines.
- Adapt content to user feedback and usability testing insights.
Mentor and Educate
- Provide guidance to junior UX writers and contribute to team growth.
- Educate stakeholders on best practices for UX writing and content strategy.
- Help teams understand how content impacts user experience and product success.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (English, Journalism, Communications, Human-Computer Interaction, etc.) or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of experience in UX writing, content design, technical writing, marketing, or editorial roles.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating UX writing skills and content strategy projects.
- Experience collaborating on cross-functional projects with designers, engineers, and product teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience interacting with executive leadership, presenting content strategies, and influencing decision-making.
- 2+ years in an agency setting, working on UX writing, content marketing, or editorial projects.
- Experience developing information architecture for documentation sets, including localization and accessibility best practices.
- Familiarity with user research principles and practices, using data to refine content strategies.
- Strong knowledge of web and mobile UI design principles, including Google’s Material Design.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and project management skills.
