We are looking for a highly skilled Senior COBOL Architect to lead and oversee our Mainframe Modernization initiatives. This is a key leadership role, responsible for designing robust architectures, driving modernization strategies, and mentoring teams. Key Responsibilities
- Architect and Design Solutions. Develop high-level architectural designs and technical strategies for Mainframe Modernization projects, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Lead Development Teams. Oversee a team of COBOL developers and engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and ensuring project deliverables are met on time and within budget.
- Legacy System Analysis. Assess existing COBOL applications, identify modernization opportunities, and define effective migration strategies to modern platforms.
- Mainframe Modernization Strategies. Develop roadmaps and best practices for transitioning legacy COBOL applications to cloud, microservices, or hybrid environments.
- Performance Optimization. Identify bottlenecks, conduct performance tuning, and implement best practices for improving system efficiency and scalability.
- Automation & Tool Development. Create automation tools, scripts, and frameworks to streamline processes and improve maintainability.
- Compliance & Security. Ensure adherence to security standards, scalability requirements, and regulatory compliance related to mainframe applications.
- Cross-functional Collaboration. Work closely with business analysts, project managers, and IT stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure alignment with enterprise IT strategies.
- Code Reviews & Documentation. Conduct rigorous code reviews, enforce best practices, and maintain detailed documentation for future reference.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in COBOL development and architecture.
- Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, CICS, REXX, OpenVMS, and related mainframe technologies.
- Proven experience leading large teams and managing enterprise-level projects.
- In-depth understanding of Mainframe Modernization methodologies and best practices.
- Extensive knowledge of database systems used in mainframe environments (DB2, IMS, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with performance tuning, debugging, and troubleshooting in COBOL applications.
- Ability to analyze, refactor, and optimize legacy COBOL code for better performance and maintainability.
- Strong understanding of integration methodologies, including APIs, Web Services, and hybrid cloud environments.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills to work effectively with teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud Migration Experience. Understanding of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud migration strategies for mainframe applications.
- Microservices & APIs. Knowledge of how to integrate legacy systems with modern Microservices architectures.
- DevOps & CI/CD. Experience working with automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
- Certifications in Mainframe Technologies or Cloud-based modernization solutions.
