First I would like to say beware of the people that mention programming language syntax, it's an absurd thing to make any decision based on that. Trust me on this, in your career you will most likely work with at least couple of languages and you will notice that you can learn syntax for any of them in pretty fast, but you still will not be able to say that you know that language. PHP is written mostly in C so yes you will find many similarities that are shared between them, but these are pretty much shared with everyone else and this induces C# (a .NET's language) as well. Note that a lot of imperative languages have many syntax similarities. Now back to your choose, honestly I wouldn't struggle to much on this. As mentioned before if you are serious about programming as a career then you must realize that after some time you will definitely have at least two programming languages in your skill set. So my conclusion is if you are wasting to much time on choosing it, then choose randomly (I suggest eeny, meeny, miny, moe approach ;)). Last in case you are curious, you can find visit TestDome which is a programmers testing service . They evaluate the capabilities and the aptitude of the programmers with their online tests. I would like to suggest you to include their tests in your learning process (for example check out these PHP coding tests or these C# coding tests ) so that you may monitor your progression of specific language.

As per my understanding you should prefer PHP because PHP syntax is some similar to C and C++ syntax.But if you are looking to learn any web technologies then I will prefer ASP.Net because as a career you will get more opportunity.

php is just a framework whereas asp.net is based on framework techologies. You will never get regrest after choosing the ASP.NET .

Hi shahbaz-baig , Both technology is valuable in these days, both having their own growth and advantage to use . But very important thing is which technology take more interest rather than both. Both language are good in different ways. like .net is not essay to understand and hard too work on that but that is more secure than PHP. But PHP is essay and fast for working. and one of the most demanding like .net projects are costly than PHP so that why PHP have more projects in market than .net .. many more things
