Since your using single & in the first condtion, if a==b is false also it will check for c==d so below second condition is faster if (a==b) if (c==b)

The difference between & and && is important here but otherwise the optimization done by the compiler can be quite effective.

& and && both are “AND” operators in C# which means that if both conditions are true only then result is true. There is big difference between the executions of these operators: When && is used, then first condition is evaluated and if it comes out to be false then the second condition is not checked because according to the definition of && operator (AND) if both conditions are true only then && returns true else false. When & is used then both conditions are checked in every case. So, you are using single & operator and everytime both conditions will be evaluated. Second piece of code is faster with respect of above definition. In this code if first condition is false then second if will not be executed.
