What is the main basically use of sql cursor ? How can we use them in our project ?

Cursor is a database object to retrieve data from a result set one row at a time, instead of the T-SQL commands that operate on all the rows in the result set at one time. We use cursor when we need to update records in a database table in singleton fashion means row by row. Life Cycle of Cursor Declare Cursor A cursor is declared by defining the SQL statement that returns a result set. Open A Cursor is opened and populated by executing the SQL statement defined by the cursor. Fetch When cursor is opened, rows can be fetched from the cursor one by one or in a block to do data manipulation. Close After data manipulation, we should close the cursor explicitly. Deallocate Finally, we need to delete the cursor definition and released all the system resources associated with the cursor.

Cursor comes to the picture when there is a scenario of Multiple records and from that multiple records you want to use each and every records for future process just like for loop or any kind of loop which allow us to work with a single record from a list of records.

Hi, Cursor is used for retrieving data row by row basis.its act like a looping statement (ie while or for loop). If you want to update only 10 rows outof 2000 rows in a table then it use.

sir incase of sql query you read records dynamicaly(all rows value gets at a time ). where as when the query ready throw cursor you can read records explicitily (each row value can get separatily)
