I am a beginner in Csharp, I'd like to know how to handle multiple sound cards (both input and output), more clearly how can I select a sound card among those I have using Csharp,I need your help please

For multiprocessing operatings such as Windows and Unix/Linux, devices are shared resources. Using the facilities that most processors provide, the operating systems take control of devices and don't allow applications the access they need to be able to interface with devices. So you cannot access devices directly; whether you are using Windows or Linux, they won't let you. As I already said, processors such as the ones that Windows support enable the operating system to prevent applications from doing anything with devices directly. In both Windows and Unix/Linux and in most modern operating systems, there must be a device driver (that is what they are called in both Windows and Unix/Linux) that acceses devices. I am sure you are not developing a device driver. Back in the days of DOS and 16-bit Windows Game developers would access hardware directly since they needed the best performance possible. So for 32-bit Windows Microsoft had to do something. They purchased software that the renamed DirectX. So you need to look at DirectX and whatever else might exist to replace DirectX. I am not sure whether there is something available for managed code that replaces DirectX but I know that DirectX has a few limitations that Microsoft needs to do something to replace DirectX. I think that for sound you need to look for DirectSound. Look for articles in this web site that show how to use sound in C#. Note that at least one article shows how to use the computer's speaker to make a simple piano; you don't want to use the computer's speaker.

Well, for a beginner in C#, you're certainly jumping straight in at the deep end :) I'm no expert on sound and, judging by this thread (http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/Offtopic/thread/9ebd7ad6-a460-4a28-9de9-2af63fd4a13e/), I thought it would probably be impossible to do this programatically. However, I did find another thread (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1555156/c-how-to-programatically-change-the-playback-device) which suggests that you can do it by calling the waveOutMessage() function in the Windows Multimedia library (winmm.dll) and passing it the DRVM_MAPPER_PREFERRED_SET message. There seems to be some doubt about whether this works on Vista and (presumably therefore) Window 7. So, before I try to figure out how to call this function from C#, which version of Windows are you using?
