Remote Database Connectivity

Question

Hello Folks,

I am creating an application in which it has to retrieve the data from a database that resides on the other computer. I have searched all the Internet links but couldnt find the required information.

Need some help about this. Currently using Sql Server 2005 Express Edition and Windows XP SP2.

hi friend, Follow below steps: for eg: you have two Computers named Node001 and Node 002 1. install the sql server in Node001 2. Go to Surface Area Configuration from Start->Programs->Microsoft Sql Server 2005 -> Configuration Tool -> SQL server Surface Area Configuration 3. It'll Open a window like this 4. Now click on the selected link and you'll see the window below Now click remote Connection and change the setting like given in below snap shot. And your Computer Node001 is ready to allow SqlServer remote connection. Now Create application in Node002 and create a connection string like below: And your application is ready to connect with remote database on another computer. Hope you get some help from this. hi Farrukh , NO need to add MDF on your server.... other server will do everything you ju just have to connect with it properly.. also Always mark helping post as answer when somebody helps you. it encourage the user ^_^

Hello, Ive got a question, do we need to attach that MDF file to our own Sql Server too or the second computer will do just fine! Regards,

Since the database is SQL Server you need SQL Server in both computers. Then just look at connection strings; you can specify that a database is in another computer using connection strings.

Hello Sarah, Ive created the database and put it on the network. Now I want to attach this file but cant actually find the option to attach the DB. I wanted to ask one more thing, should i be using MySql or Sql Server 2005 will just do fine? Thanx for the reply. Regards.

You need to access the database on the other machine from network. try browsing through your management studio and then use the server explorer to create a query string. you did not explain what exactly is stopping you from doing so?
