Radio buttons in Lightswitch web app

Would like some direction as to how to create custom control "Radiobuttons".  I have a requirement to create date search parameters for date ranges based upon the selected radiobutton.  for example, YTD, QTD, MTD, Last Year, etc.  Based on what is selected, the system will automatically calculate the requested data range to query.  I have viewed some links that have helped but I am still not very clear on how to do this.  any help would be appreciated.
