Problem in Connecting Database. error " SQL Server does not allow remote connections."

Question

Hello all,
I have created one database application, it works fine on my Pc, but when i insatalll it on another.. it gives me following databse error. I include the .mdf and log file in setup.. Can anybody suggest how to solve this?

" An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections."

1. Click Start , point to Programs , point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 , point to Configuration Tools , and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration . 2. On the SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration page, click Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections . 3. On the Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections page, expand Database Engine , click Remote Connections , click Local and remote connections , click the appropriate protocol to enable for your environment, and then click Apply .

Hi Scott, Sql server is running.. by searching i found that that by default sql server runs in Windows Authentication mode. i dont know how to set sql Authenticatin mode. and also dont know how to cretae a New User account in sql Express. If u have idea, plz let me inform.

It might be one of a few things but start out with the obvious ones. First make sure that the database instance is running (if it is not you may get the remote access error message) Assuming that it is running, open up SQL Server Management Studio, right click the SQL Server instance name in the object explorer (left hand side) and select properties. A dialog will open, click on the "Connections" page in the "Select a Page" window (also left hand side). Look at the properties displayed in the right hand pane; towards the bottom you should see a checkbox that should be checked to "Allow Remote Connections". If that does not do it, you might want to take a look at the users and permissions for your database.
