Need help in SP2016 migration.

Question

I have sharepoint 2013 web applications with multiple site collections...in these some of the site collection has their own dedicated content db assigned to them. Now I am migrating the sharepoint 2013 web application to sp 2016 using sp-mount command..... As we sp-mount command takes "webApplication" as parameter not site collection.... so how can I Migrate site collection to dedicated content db after root level site collection migration????

that is correct you just need to provide the content database name for same web application. Another thing, parameter is web application Name /URL not for site collection. -WebApplication: The type must be a valid GUID, in the form 12345678-90ab-cdef-1234-567890bcdefgh; a valid name of SharePoint web application (for example, MyOfficeApp1); or an instance of a valid SPWebApplication object. You both commands are correct: Mount-SPContentDatabase "dedicatedcDB" -DatabaseServer "MyServer" -WebApplication http://server1:2121 Mount-SPContentDatabase "RootSCDB" -DatabaseServer "MyServer" -WebApplication http://server1:2121

Thanks for your reply... I didn't get any documentation on this in Google so I will go with your guidelines, before that please confirm me on my understanding of your answer : C:\PS>Mount-SPContentDatabase "RootSCDB" -DatabaseServer "MyServer" -WebApplication http://server1:2121 And for second site collection under the same web application in source which has dedicated content db... we can pass only the "webApplication url" for - WebApplication parameter Mount-SPContentDatabase comnand..... we should not pass the site collection URL... A content database required a web application, Mount command use the web application parameter so that SharePoint knows which web application this content database going to attached. Now, if you have many sites in dedeicated Dbs, it will not hurt mount process, you can have multiple CDBs in single web app(i am sure you have same setup in 2013). Make sure, you use the correct web application name in the command. ,
