Microsoft Hub Sites and Team Sites

There's lots of talk surrounding the new Microsoft Hub sites that is currently being rolled out and how to associate a modern Team site to the Hub.  We are currently using O365 with the exception of Exchange which is still on premise.  What functionality will we not have with the new experience if we're not using Exchange online?
