It is low level in that sense same as C is a lower level and VB is a higher level language what this means is that you need a little more intelligence to use low level stuff but you did not highlight the fact that "ODBC is a low-level, high-performance interface". you forgot to add The ODBC interface allows maximum interoperability—an application can access data in diverse DBMSs through a single interface. Moreover, that application will be independent of any DBMS from which it accesses data. Users of the application can add software components called drivers, which interface between an application and a specific DBMS. And Sam I do not use other peoples code to look like my own then publish in my articles as having an expert knowledge of the subject, you know what I mean Sam! On another note, without Allen Cooper (Tripod / Ruby) the father of Visual Basic as it is today would probably not even exist, Visual C and Visual C++ when it first come out was anything but visual in the terms of the IDE's we know today.

What do you mean by lower level technology! ODBC is the single most effective database connectivity tool you could ever want and is VERY easy to use you just need to be a programmer to use it.

ODBC is older, lower-level technology that is more technical to use. It is true that ADO supports ODBC using OLE/DB but it is not necessary to use ODBC for the databases that are currently used most.
