How to get the details if EmpID already exist

Question

Hi, I have employee creation Form and in this form there are Employee ID I want to add new employee but when adding employee id i want to know if employee id already exist so data don't want to save and get the error if employee id already exist. how i can do this please help me.

Just before insert call a method which return all records which is matching in form of DataTable... For example: public DataTable GetEmployee() { //here your select query and store it in DataTable return dataTbl; } //then after inside your page code { DataTable dt = GetEmployee(); if (dt.Rows.Count>0) { //cannot insert and give the warning to user } else { //fire insert query } } Mark accepted if it is helpful to you. Hey You can apply whatever the approach given in my earlier reply. The value given is just an sample, you need to change it accordingly. Employee ID will be generated manually It will be a character + number Like : yuvi123 And where the write this coding in a textbox coding or page load coading

First of all, if you want to avoid duplicate entry then you can make that employee id as primary key. Second, you can query like this If not exists ( select 1 from tablename where employeeId =1) // insert query // when ExecuteQuery ()==0 means no row updated then print whatever you want
