How to Dispose Static Variables in C#

Hi all, How to Dispose Static Variables in C#?

Thank you Vinay Singh for sharing these links, but senario is as below: 1) We have declared a static variable as global variable and initialized it with data from DB, inside a Static Constructor. 2) Purpose of this data is to perform some arithmetic operations on huge number of objects. 3) Now when we change data in DB table which we are loading in static variable, the new value is not picking up by this static variable because Static constructor in not running again in same session. We require to re host it to load the changes. I have tried so many ways, like managing session and putting variable to null, but it is not working out. Please give some suggestion, I am not much experience in ASP.NET

Hello friends, I am facing this issue in our application, we are using static vaiable to store 200 rows of data, this information we are using on very large scale, I can not load these rows every time, it is increasing execution time by more then1 min. Do we have alternative of this problem.

Well, first of all, variables are memory locations (not objects or values) and, in the case of static variables, they are always memory locations on the heap. They exist from when the containing class (or struct) is first accessed until the application domain is destroyed. However, if the static variable is a reference type it can either refer to an object of that type or to no object (null). If it refers to an object, then that object can be disposed of in just the same way as any other object which implements IDisposable by calling its Dispose() method. However, because static variables never go out of scope they (and any other references to the object) need to be set to null to allow the garbage collector to reclaim the memory used by the object. Before it was set to null, the static variable only contained a reference to that memory.

Static variable uses in app domain so you can't dispose. When we reset server then these automatic dispose for example when we do iisreset then these are atomic dispose and get previous stage. In web avoid static variable use cache instead of this
