How does windows messenger work

Question

How do messaging programs work? I think I can apply the technology to something I am working on, but I'm not sure how it works.

Friend, Simple Messenger Logic you can understand is here Messenger Logic in Messenger There are Two part Client And Server . Client Part Receives the Data Sent By Server .Client and Server both Send The Data or Receive the Data using Sockets .Each Messenger Software having both the part as they also receives the data and Send the Data to Specifc IP address. when then Send the Data Along with data they also send the IP of the Server machine and Vice Versa. Well, I have a point-of-sale software that needs to start taking online ordering. The model i want to integrate is this: server gets prices from software (at each site);server displays prices to web user;web user places order based on these prices;server sends order to pos software. It depnds on the program. Some are very simple and some are very complex. The less simple ones use a server to connect users. Perhaps if you describe what you need to do it will be easier to guide you from there.
