Error Log of third party App

Question

Hi all,

In my windows application written in C#, I am calling one windows utility...but it is likely to fail the execution of that windows utility execution...How do I log the error of that utility into my C# application?

Hi, Thanks for your interest..well, going specific.. I am using CSVDE.exe utility of windows - that lists the Active Directory records in to CSV file...but sometimes in absence of network or due to some other problems it is possible that file does not create by this utility.. I am executeing this CSVDE.exe from my C# windows application. I wish this digs some more ground for you! thanks Jeet

Could you please specify what type of utility is it Jeet, Is the utility in .NET or Native application as if it is a .NET utility then you can use AppDomain instance to host the .NET utility and catch all the exceptions in UnhandledException Event but for Native utility things are different, if you could specify that?? Or one more indirect way could be to check the System Logs if the utitlity threw some exception, if it logs its error in EventViewer.

I can try-catch.... but the problem is that error occurred by windows utility is not being trapped..... and which is right too....as error is not from my application...My application is just calling that utility to execute. e.g. my utility requires network connection, but if the connection is not there - utility will get failed...but My application does not know about that...This is just one possibility of an error... Hi Jeet, I couldn't get the exact requirement but still I will try, If you wanna make an log of error you could trap it either in EventLog using EventLog class in System.Diagonostics or you could keep your own Log file of your application. If you could give a bit more detail of the requirement may be I could help you out.
