datagridview

Question

hi, I wann to display table content on to my datagridview.
My requiement is in such a way that when I display table content to datagrid, table should occupy after leaving1st row in datagrid blank.ie 1st row should be blank.......
and where I can insert a new row into my same table....
pls help me for accomplishing the above reqirement.....

Hi Mohan, This is shaheena.I have seen your requirement and I have got the same requirement to be implemented in datagridview in windows form.I have to add the row at the top of the datagridview with 'add' gridviewlinkcoulmn and 'edit' and 'delete' for rest of the rows.Im just a new bee to the C# datagridview control.I do not know how to implement this.I have got the datagridview which displays records from the table when a selection is made through combo box.Im looking for add/update/delete operation.Can you please pass me the code for datagridview with add/edit/delete operation.It would be of great help to me.Eagerly waiting for your reply. Usually it occurs if retrieved data type is not same with current one.May i know what 1st and second id refers?. where you got this error in code?.I think problem is not in merging.its may be in your table design.i think you got this because both id's data type is not same.

hi samy, when I tried to merge as u told.... I am getting this new error ...... [ .id and .id have conflicting properties: DataType property mismatch.] here actually I working on some other table which has one column whose datatype as int.... if i made that column as varchar, its not giving the following error..... if the type is other than varchar then it rises the following error.... could u fix this prob pls.....

Mohan,you can set Rows or Columns visible as false Like dataGridView1.Columns[0].Visible = false; dataGridView1.Rows[0].Visible = false; But we cant set visibility for single cell i think so. You try to assign its value empty by assign its value with empty string[""].

hi samy, thank you very much once again...... I nee one clarification here .... dataGridView1.Rows[0].Cells[0].Visible = false; the above code is giving an error saying tat ['System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCell.Visible' cannot be assigned to -- it is read only] actually here the above mentioned column is a datagridviewbuttoncolumn I want to achieve above requirement so how to do that....

Mohan, you should set Button's value manually. Simply set Button column's UseColumnTextForButtonValue property as False . hi samy, finally I made it working.... thank you very much...... now its working as per my requirement..... but I have small problem.. ie as you know, In my application there are 2 buttons columns that r associated to every row in dgv.... here I want to set buttons associated with very 1st row as Insert and 1st buttoncolumn of every other rows as Delete and 2nd buttoncolumn of rows except 1st as Update I dont know how to do this..... and even I tried button's [text] property and [name] property but its not working..... I just getting changes only at header part of those respective columns .... so please assist me with coding........ or else If it is possible to place any images on to those buttons assist me with coding......

hi samy, as u told, I made creation of blank row in my dgv.... but for my application, i need 2 (button)columns that should assosiated with the displayed table(i.e for every row there is an option to 'update' & 'delete'). for that I made use of DaatGridViewButtonColumn. but I dont know how to write edit & delete operation on selected rows..... see In this application, I ll edit the record while it is in datagridview itself..... so suggest some events or some coding techniques to perform it

Mohan ,you simply write queries as per your requirement such as delete, edit buttons in those button events.after end of all operation you refresh your datagridview by retrieve data from database for add data, insert new row content into database.and do the same operation what i have told to you for blank row. when you retrieve data after insert,your updated table contents will be retrieved.then append a blank row with it.and show it in datagridview.

hi dude, I tried as u told.... its working fine... but Its not the exact requirement of me... my requirement is as below when i display table from db, there should be an option to perform edit(button), delete(button) operation for already existing records and only add(button) operation for new records that v r going to enter at the top blank row).... and one more thing when I add a new tuple(row) into that datagridview, after it gets saved into db immediately it should generate new blank row at the top..... and added row should go to next line as per its alphabetical naming order hope u got it properly now now currently I have been trying for the same you too just try it dude..... thanks for ur reply....

Hi mohan, There are two ways to do. 1.add a row with empty strings[""] as content in datagridview. after that insert rows one by one from your table. you cant use DataGridview1.DataSource=table1 after insert row in datagridview and cant use Insert row after DataGridview1.DataSource=table1 assigned. so you have to insert rows one by one. 2.Merge your data table with a table which contain an empty row Ex: DataTable dt1 = new DataTable(); dt1.Columns.Add("col1"); dt1.Columns.Add("col2"); dt1.Rows.Add("", ""); dt1.Merge(dt); DataGridview1.DataSource = dt1; here dt refers your data table and column Names & count in both table must be same.it will show table with blank 1st row.

thanks for ur reply shree...... but as for my application , I am implementing it in winforms...... so wt u have given to me is not working bcoz I couldnt find those events..... hope u got my problem..... I kno, to display table content on to datagridview...... but the thing is the table should occupy my datagridview leaving very 1st row of datagrid blank.... i.e from 2nd row it should occupy.... and In that 1st blank row, I would like to insert a new row into my table thro that blank row......
