custom validation control

In a C# 2010 web form application, I am using a custom validator. I want the custom validator logic to occur when the user user clicks the 'submit' button. However I can not tell how to make the custom validation logic occur when the user clicks the 'submit' button. Can you tell me how to solve this problem?
