Auto increment of Number with String using C# Winforms

Question

Hi, Can you guys explain me how to auto increment a number with string like CHHTP001, CHHTP002, CHHTP003 and so on, and generate to textbox before saving in database, using C# window form and Access for database. I already try other method but still don't work. Thank you.

Jeff , One option would be to create a autonumber field as below: http://www.techonthenet.com/access/tables/autoinc2007.php Concatenate the autoincrement number and the string using & operator . This could server as a no code solution. If we go via code , .Query the database and get the record by the largest id or by the largest autoincrement field (This will obviously have the largest number in the format CHHTP003 ) .Increment the number and Concatenate the string CHHTP to the number Thanks, Priyan If you found this useful Please mark this as answer

wasn't it just using a simple increment operation? e.g.: int serial = 0; Console.WriteLine ("CHHTP"); if (serial Console.WriteLine ("00{0}", serial); else if (serial Console.WriteLine ("0{0}", serial); else if (serial Console.WriteLine ("{0}", serial); else Console.WriteLine ("out of range!"); btw, how to use the code tag in this web?

Hi Jeff, The best and correct way to handle such scenerio is First get the last number inserted in database trim the value to the digits only and increment the digits by 1 and populate the digits with text appended to it in a textbox then save the textbox value directly in to the DB.
