Add string to Long List

Question

I have a string value string str1 = "1,2" and a Long List List l1 = new List (); I want to add this string value to List,without using loop,how this could be done? please do let me know about the same

You can't . This is the violation of why Generics are invented. Generics provide elasticity means variable length but keep the type so that boxing unboxing can be avoid. List ==> List means you can add unlimited long type to this list but not the string.

Yes, it's not possible, if it is list of long then it will allow only long value to add in list not as string. But which I have provided that one way he can do by spliting string to long values and add to list .

Hi Aniket, You can achieve this using string split and convert ot list, if you wish to create list of string then you can do like below List l1 = new List (); l1= str1.Split(',').ToList(); or If you wish to conver list of long values then you can do below string str1 = "1,2"; List l1 = new List (); l1 = str1.Split(',').Select(long.Parse).ToList();

You can also achieve this through the following code: string str1 = "1,2,3" ; List long > l1 = new List long >(Array.ConvertAll(str1.Split( ',' ), long .Parse));

@Jignesh sir, Yes, this is a solution, but as per OP question, he wants to directly add the string ("a,b") to long that is not possible, isn't it?
